Welcome friends to The Bookish Sisterhood’s very first, EVER, blog post. Now some might be asking themselves, “Are blogs even relevant?” and the answer is, perhaps not, but we are starting one because we are no good at sounding clever in Tweets, no one reads captions on Instagram anymore and I {Jen} am petrified of Tik Tok and Snapchat. So here we are. And just like our grandparents are charming and wise, we hope this too is a place of charm, inspiration and even words of wisdom now and again.

But who are “we”?

My name is Jen (the girl on the left) and Kenzie is on the right. We’re friends who live states away from each other and met via the internet in a Mom’s group. Yep. Coincidently, with many small children running around our legs asking when snack time was, we both started Etsy shops around the same time and connected via the frustrations of being small shop owners and the fear and joy of watching those shops grow and evolve into what they are today. However, though our origin story is adorable and millennial in all the best ways possible, the real story (pun intended) is how this bookclub began. Here we go, I will illustrate for you:

Kenzie (talking on the phone with Jen): I never read anymore.

Jen: Oh! I didn’t know you like to read! I’ll suggest some books for you!

Kenzie: Ok! What are you reading now?

Jen: Jane Eyre!

Kenzie: …

Jen: I’m also reading a biography of Abigail Adams that’s very good!

Kenzie: …

Jen: I’m thinking about re-reading Anna Karenina?

Kenzie: …

Jen: Mmmm… maybe we should find a book we can read together?

Kenzie: Ooo, yes! Let’s do that!

Voila! Bookclub was born!

We’ve had our impromptu bookclub going strong for about two years now and this year, we’d like to invite you to join us. Every season we will announce the books we will be reading here and on Instagram @thebookishsisterhood. There will be discussions, giveaways, and even a couple of fun freebies to go along with each of the books for our subscribers. We hope you’ll join us!
